Eco-walk from the Ministry of Resorts and Tourism of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic - "Gizhgit Cheese Rocks"

September 27, 2019

Today, on the "tourism day", a group of 20 people, hiking and untouched nature lovers from the city of Nalchik and guests of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, under my leadership climbed a new trail to the top of Mount Gizhgit, located next to the lake of the same name. The walk to the top takes about an hour, from here there are beautiful views of the rocky bastions of the Rocky Ridge mountains and the Baksan Valley.

The main attractions of the walk were the belt of "weathering rocks" around the top of Gizhgit, the Big and Small Gizhgit lakes, which after the cessation of industrial activity of the Tyrnyauz mining and processing plant are gradually becoming a healthy ecosystem and habitat for large birds of the vulture family, which we were able to observe. Among them today we saw bearded vultures and griffon vultures, rare species listed in the Red Book.

On the way back, the group carried out an environmental campaign - they collected garbage along the shore of the Small Lake Gizhgit, accumulated there by fishermen and tourists indifferent to nature.

I want to thank everyone for their interest in their beloved mountains and nature!
