As part of the environmental campaign "Clean Mountain", today 320 volunteers from all over Russia who came to Elbrus collected and lowered (and this is even more important!) as many as 50 tons of garbage, which had been lying there partly since the Soviet Union!
In my opinion, now the biggest problem in the whole world, including in the mountains and on Elbrus, is the so-called microplastic, small plastic fragments that are crumbling more and more, but only completely decompose over many years (a bag over 10-20 years, foam plastic dishes - 50 years, and a bottle - 450!).
Old metal and iron pose a lesser threat to nature, they still rust and disintegrate, as well as wooden logs, boards and other wooden things - another 30-50 years and they will not exist, the process of decay cannot be stopped.
But still - garbage is not aesthetically pleasing, it spoils the views and your mood. Therefore, a big request to everyone who goes to the mountains - do not leave traces, take down the garbage, yours and that which accidentally ended up under your feet or at the corner of your eye - especially if it is plastic! Contribute to the cleanliness of the mountains, and future generations will thank you!
Our team not only participated in the action, but also provided 500 garbage bags and a snowcat to lower heavy, oversized garbage from a height of 4000 m to the upper station of the cable car, from where the bags were further lowered on trucks.
