Educational lecture in form of an ecological quiz for adults and children

March 8, 2025

Attracting a large number of fellow citizens to a conscious attitude towards nature today is one of the most important, but also the most difficult tasks. In this quiz, the listeners-players gained new knowledge about the fragility of ecosystem of our planet, understanding the importance of mountains for maintaining the purity of water, air and as a recreational area for city dwellers. Questions they had to find answers on included the following%

- What initiated life on earth?
- What percentage of water on earth is freshwater?
- Which reservoirs store the most freshwater and approximately how much?
- Why is there less and less drinking water on earth?
- In which country do citizens consume the most water, and how is it extracted there?
- Are mineral and bottled water sterile?
- How long water keeps pure in glass and plastic bottles?
- What determines the purity of tap water?
- Why is garbage in the mountains a more complex problem than in many other places, for example cities?
- Why is plastic the biggest garbage problem in our mountains?
- Why does microplastic easily form in the mountains?

The main problem of garbage in the mountains, according to a survey hold among tourists in the Alps, is by their opion not ecological or hygienic, but aesthetic - no one likes to walk along beautiful mountain paths and run into left garbage at every step, even if it is just a small piece of paper. This shows that environmental education among tourists is especially important, and that it is easy to conduct - after all, most people see environmental problems, especially in nature, but only a few understand how to help and what to do to preserve the aesthetic value of our Earth for the future, which for us begins today.

The lecture was open to everyone, but only women came, some with their kids, who actively participated in the quiz. Women are definitely more interested in environmental issues than men, and this shows once again that the female community can positively influence the state of the environment of our planet.
