"International Bird Day" is an ecological holiday celebrated annually on April, 1.
It was officially celebrated in the USSR since 1926. In 1994 Bird Day was re-established thanks to the efforts of ornithologist enthusiasts from the Russian Bird Conservation Union, a charitable non-profit organization.
It is held within the framework of the UNESCO biological program "Man and the Biosphere". Bird Day is the most famous holiday dedicated to birds celebrated in Russia today and although this holiday is called "international", it is practically not celebrated anywhere except Russia.
What is the ecological value of birds? Birds are necessary as pollinators and for the dispersal of seeds of many plants. Birds feed on various insects, rodents and other small animals, naturally controlling these populations and ensuring the proper balance in their ecosystem.
Birds live in different places: some choose forests, others - plains or mountains, and some love water and even urban environments. Birds are found everywhere, although most of their species live in the tropics. The warmer it is and the more vegetation, the better the living conditions for birds.
The presence of birds around us gives us a clear understanding of the state of nature we live in.
Let's celebrate this day together, listen to the voices of birds in the park, at the dacha, maybe even near our home and take care of these amazing creatures together!
