Today is the International Day of Forests or World Forest Day.

21 March 2025

Russia is home to one fifth of all forests on the planet, covering an area of over 1 billion hectares. They absorb hundreds of millions of tons of carbon dioxide annually and play an important role in achieving global carbon neutrality. Russian forests absorb an average of 600 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, but their potential is higher.

It is very important and appropriate to conduct scientific research in the field of assessing the absorption capacity of various ecosystems, including updating the coefficients used to calculate emissions.

According to a poll investigating public opinion, increasing environmental literacy could improve the environmental situation in the country. This opinion was expressed by 38% of respondents. Ecotourism and environmental education are important areas in the formation of a culture of responsible attitude towards the environment.

Let us remember every day - our forests are especially important for all of us today and for our children tomorrow.
